How to promote a site. How to promote a website yourself

A lot of people strive to create a website on the Internet, some are interested in making money online, others in popularity, and still others are only interested in it. However, everyone, without exception, is faced with the issue of website promotion. Moreover, it causes more problems than the creation of the web project itself. The main catch lies in the fact that promotion depends on many factors: subject matter, relevance, competitiveness, budget, time, etc. But the main obstacle is the fact that the methods of promotion change very often, in six months the information may, if not radically change, then the nuances will definitely be changed.

From the above, it follows that in order to understand how to promote a site on your own, you need to do seo (site optimization) from time to time, setting up various experiments on your mini-sites. This will give you the opportunity to better navigate in what tendency are the methods of website promotion, calculate the estimated amount of financial investments, time, etc. We cannot give you comprehensive information on how to promote a site in search engines of all niches and topics, and there is no particular sense in this. But instead, we are ready to tell you about the general features of how to promote a site on your own, what to devote more attention to, and what, on the contrary, to devote less time, money and effort.

General principles of how to promote a site yourself.

There are quite a few principles of website promotion, even if we talk about the basic ones. Therefore, in order to somehow structure the article, we decided to divide all the tips into three groups:

Internal optimization; External optimization; Website promotion by users’ hands.

Moreover, we have arranged the groups in their order of effectiveness: internal optimization has the greatest effect, the least – website promotion by users’ hands. However, this does not mean that we recommend that you use only one type of website promotion methods, no! When promoting a resource, you should use a set of methods that are only known and available to you.

Internal optimization.

You can promote your website on the Internet even with the help of one content. In the sense that if your information or files are of great value among Internet users, then gaining popularity is quite easy. Content in most cases is articles or texts with attached files. Therefore, the foundation of all internal optimization is built on good copy. They should, first of all, be useful to the user, be relevant and contain FULL information. Unique content is of particular value. Moreover, the uniqueness should not be measured only by the uniqueness of the texts, but also by the very meaning, that is, the news, the article, and even the file provided on the page should be exclusive.

So, the “foundation” is already there, now we are starting to build on it a “framework”, that is, that very internal optimization. Let’s touch on the texts again. Any search engine determines the quality, value and uniqueness of the site as a whole, primarily by the articles and texts that are contained on the site. They should be:

Thematic, since a large number of “motley” articles or texts on the site misleads the search engine, as it begins to doubt: “Is it really worth referring this site to the selected category ?!” This problem is especially encountered on blogs, when the main topic of the site is mixed with personal stories from life and everything that interests the author of the blog along the way. It is quite simple to find clear evidence that non-thematic articles or texts harm the site: analyze the results of Yandex or Google, for most queries in the results you will see mainly sites, but not blogs on this topic. Moreover, the quality of the blog can be generally very good, but since it contains some of the information not on the topic, it takes place much lower than the thematic sites. Therefore, you need to remember that when you create a site, filling it with content, you need to make sure that no posts appear in it that are not directly related to the selected topic. And such texts may appear in the comments, on forums, in the “miscellaneous” section of the site, when placing a paid article, etc. Even the name of the site itself can create a problem if it has a comic style. For example: the popular site “Zaitsev.Net”, is knocked out in the TOP-1 in Moscow for the query “Hares”. This is a vivid example of how a search engine can get confused in the thematicity of a site, even though the project has a narrow (in our case, musical) bias! Optimized. Despite the fact that Yandex and Google are against optimized texts, they still work. The main thing is not to overdo it with the density of key queries in the text, and for this you need very little, the algorithm is as follows: choose the topic of the article, search on the service for suitable queries (from 5 to 15 pieces). And already, based on them, you start writing your optimized article. You must not only insert all the queries into the text, but also really give an answer to them. For example, if the request includes the word “prices”, then you should at least write a list of prices for this product, as well as provide links to those resources where you can purchase the product. As for the “insertion of queries into the text”, here you should have experience in using queries in the text in this topic. As a rule, it is enough to use each request from 1 to 3 times in the text (depending on the volume of the text), the form of use can be very different. The query can be declined, change the number, its gender, add new words, conjunctions, sometimes it is even possible to exclude some words from the query, especially if the keywords contain a pronoun or participle. Relinked. Speaking about site linking, which is the basis for internal optimization, it is necessary to mention that linking with the help of articles is of particular importance. Links from articles have the greatest weight and power, since they are: static, it is possible to apply almost any anchor, and most importantly, surround them with thematic text from all sides. It has been discussed many times that the greatest effect of links occurs when people follow them. Therefore, do not just “sculpt” links in the articles, but put them in such a way that the articles to which you refer can supplement today’s material or perhaps explain something in more detail. For example, from the article “How to become beautiful”, you can make links to articles “How to build hair”, “How to do makeup”, “How to learn beautifully, paint on nails”, etc. Such linking of articles will play not only a positive role in terms of increasing the page weight, but also help to raise other queries of your site higher in the search results.

Tips for beginners (and not only) on internal optimization:

It is faster and more efficient to promote a site that does not contain errors in design, code and texts. Therefore, be careful. External links (links to other sites) are evil for a beginner! Therefore, try to remove all links that do not lead to your site. If you do not have an experienced mentor versed in internal optimization, then take a strong competitor as an example, and repeat after him, paying attention to all the little things that he uses on his website. Pay close attention to the robots.txt file. Use it to close all pages that make duplicates or, by definition, cannot bring people to the site. Install a favicon for your site to complete it. By the way, there is even such a myth that sites with a favicon have an advantage in Yandex. I personally did not do experiments in this direction, I don’t really believe in the myth, but I still install the favicon. Do not be lazy to write the description tag for all pages, it is used by the Google search engine to create a snippet (not always, but often). The Title tag must contain the keyword, but it must look natural and attractive. An example of a wrong snippet: “teeth whitening, how to whiten teeth.” Correct option: “Effective teeth whitening at home. How to whiten your teeth in 2 weeks “

External optimization.

Now let’s get down to the second part of our article, in which we will talk about external website optimization. It consists mainly of buying links, but it contains a lot of nuances that we would like to mention:

Website promotion will be effective if the purchase of links, like the promotion of the site itself, will occur gradually and evenly. The point is that you need to create a natural increase in the link mass around the site. You will not achieve naturalness if you spend all your money on links in one month and look forward to the effect. Think about how the links to the site appear, I will answer for you – they appear gradually. The more often the material is published, the more links are required. The appearance of a large number of links at the start of the site and a sharp decline with its further development looks very strange, because it should be the other way around. The so-called “reference explosions” are possible, but again they should be point-like and have some kind of periodicity. For example, imagine a news portal, its life goes on exactly until some event happens – for example, “EURO 2012”, about which the site publishes news. At this point, a link boom occurs, as information begins to be retold on other sites, thereby creating a link mass. Other sites put links on the news resource exactly until the information is relevant, then there is a sharp decline. After that, a quiet life begins again until the next significant event or moment. So you try to buy links for about the same periods if your site is of a news nature. If the topic is different, then also imagine the development of events and the placement of links. Please be patient! An important point in external optimization is the age of links, the fact is that a link that has been on the site for more than half a year has more efficiency than a link that has not been there for a week. In this connection, many optimizers, having bought links in one month, are waiting for a high growth of positions and “puzomerok” in another. This rarely happens! In addition, you should take into account the frequency and quality of updates (if we are talking about website promotion in Yandex). The “old” link is more credible for the search engine (search engine); they are more confident that the link will not disappear quickly, so it may not be classified as a venal link. In addition, the link manages to be indexed by search engines with age, because a text update is one thing and a link update is quite another, that is, not only do you need to wait for the page to be indexed, you also need to wait for the link itself to be indexed. Choose the right anchors for your links. If you buy links, first of all for the growth of positions, and as a result – an increase in the number of visits to the site, then you must choose the right anchors for promotion. First of all, try to promote not one request, but several at once, since it is very difficult to calculate how many links you need to promote one request to the TOP positions, otherwise you yourself will monitor the positions and understand which requests are moving well and which ones. you need a recharge in the form of a reference mass. In addition, if you did the right linking on the site, then pages that have a lot of weight will be able to transfer it to others, which will thereby increase their importance, and therefore the positions will move up in the search results faster. Anchors should not be repeated, or the so-called gluing of all links will occur and there will be no effect from them. Strive that the exact occurrence does not exceed 50-60% of all purchased links, 30% of the anchors should be of a diluted form (conjunctions inserted, new words, word swapped, gender changed, etc.), highlight the remaining 10% to the so-called natural anchors (here, here, there, the site, etc.) If you use the correct anchors, then the search engine will never suspect you of special site promotion. Pay attention to donors. As we know, there are two basic concepts in link buying: donor and acceptor. The donor is the site that is linked, and the acceptor is the site that is linked to. So it is very important to choose a good donor, the higher its quality, the higher positions you can take in search engines. They buy links according to different principles, I do this: first of all, I look at the age of the site, the more it is, the more likely it is that the link and the site itself will live longer and do not fall under the filter, then I pay attention to the traffic. Agree that this is one of the best indicators of site quality – the more people visit this site, the more interesting it is, the more optimized it is, there are more links to it, etc. That is, they are clearly working on this site, and hardly anyone wants to lose a site that generates income from traffic. After I pay attention to the number of external links from the site, the less it is, the better. And only then I look at such indicators as TCI, PR, etc. The last factor is my budget. Very often people ask what is better than 10 high quality links or 100 low links ?! I choose the middle ground: I buy links of both good quality (a couple of pieces) and medium (more), well, most of all I get low ones (I don’t disdain them either). I do this because no matter how good the quality of the site is, there is always a great chance that it can simply stop its essential, and with it my link.

Perpetual Links VS Temporary Links. One of my favorite topics already. I am a supporter of eternal links for many reasons and factors, but I will try (as far as possible) to be objective. So, let’s begin!

Why is it better to promote your site with perpetual links:

Large selection of SDL (sites for people): few people want to “ruin” their site by selling links in (and the like), given how many sites go under the AGS. It is possible to surround the link not only with thematic text, but also with a whole thematic article. More natural placement of the link (in the text, and not in the side column or in the footer (footer of the site)).

Why is it better to promote your site with temporary links:

It is possible to buy links from sites that do not post articles or post at very high prices. It is cheaper in the short term. Wider “assortment” of donors.

Website promotion by users’ hands.

So, now we come to probably the most interesting point of our article, namely, how to get users to promote the site with their own hands and thereby create natural ads and links. But here you will have to spend much more, both in time and possibly in terms of money, if you do not have any valuable information. Well, okay, let’s look at what methods exist to motivate users to promote your site:

Contests. This method is perhaps one of the most effective and reliable. It almost always works. What you need for this: a little money, imagination and the ability to write beautiful phrases that encourage you to participate in competitions. Place on the main page a message that a competition is being held on your site, in which everyone can participate, the winner will receive a valuable gift (think of it yourself), to participate you just need to leave links on your blogs, on social media pages, on forums, etc. (here again, choose for yourself). At the end of the competition (indicate the exact date) – the winner will receive a prize. Try to put a link to the competition on all pages and, especially in those places where you have the most visitors (on the forum, in the comments, in certain articles). To do this, study the site statistics in detail. The “cooler” the prize is, the more people who want to take part will take part, which means that you will get more backlinks to your site. Social buttons. At the end of each article there should be a block of buttons. If the article was useful to the user, then he will definitely add it to his bookmarks or share a link on his page on social networks. RSS. It helps to create the core of the site – regular readers of the site, and, as you know, 1 regular reader is valued as well as 2 new ones. When creating an RSS feed, do not forget to close it from indexing, and it is also advisable not to add the entire post to the feed, but only a part (this will save the site from copying articles, which is often done through the so-called RSS graber). E-mail subscription. It is also a fairly effective way to create the core of the site, and recently it has become more effective than RSS feeds, although a year ago it was the other way around. Subscribing by mail has a higher percentage of transitions to the site, since the whole article never arrives in the mail, and it is also much more convenient for users to read the article on the site than in the mailer window.

For this method of website promotion to work, you, first of all, need to bet on the quality of the content added to the site, since if it is bad or the content is non-unique (in terms of essence), then all your attempts will be in vain. If there is no opportunity to publish something really unique, then you better focus on the usual SEO (internal and external website optimization), there will be much more sense, and there will be fewer problems, although putting social buttons, setting up RSS and EMAIL subscriptions is not so much and difficult.

Perhaps you want to hear at least the approximate cost of website promotion, then again, the specifics are not enough – it all depends on your experience and your time. In general, we can say that in order to promote the site, it is enough to have 100 dollars and at least 5-6 hours of free time a day and work in this mode for at least six months, after which you will have the first income that you can invest back into the site, thereby further untwist it. Good luck!
